Jonsi at the Manchester Academy, 06.09.10

When I discovered that Jonsi was playing Manchester Academy and that there were still tickets left two weeks before the event, I couldn't believe my luck. I ordered tickets straight way. I then got even more excited when I read up about the tour and found out that Jonsi had teamed up with 59 production company to create a spectacular combination of film, animation, music and art installation. I knew this was going to be EPIC.

The gig began with the delightful voices of Mountain Man, a band made up of three women singing mainly a cappella creating beautiful harmonies. I was really impressed with their sweet, tuneful songs and they all have such beautiful voices, I wish I could sing like that!

When Mountain Man finished the countdown to Jonsi began. Luckily it was only a half an hour wait until we were treated to perhaps one of the most special performances of my life. The incredible animation projected on the huge screen behind the band brought the music alive and was what made the performance more than just your typical gig. The combination of animated animals moving on the screen and the lights flashing in time with the music created a spectacular visual. It's hard to put into words how beautiful and incredible it all was.

The set consisted mainly of songs from Jonsi's debut album, 'Go Do', with the more upbeat songs such as 'Animal Arithemeitc' really getting the audience going.

To be honest, I don't really know what to say apart from it was a magical, special and completely different gig and that people should go and see Jonsi for themselves to see how incredible it all is!

Current listening

Here's a link to a Spotify playlist that pretty much has music from all the bands I'm loving at the moment:
'Yes' - Spotify Playlist
Including: Johnny Flynn, Local Natives, Bon Iver, Efterklang, Jonsi and many more :)
My favourite songs that I cannot stop listening to are:

  • Modern Drift- Efterklang > When I first heard this song it took my breath away, absolutely beautiful.
  • How It Ends- Devotchka  > From one of my favourite films, Little Miss Sunshine
  • Love Lust- King Charles > I know all the words, never fails to make me smile
  • I Will Remain- Matthew and the Atlas > Just a generally amazing tune
  • The Roadside- Tunng > One of my favourite songs off their latest album

Have a little listen and see what you think. The playlist pretty much sums up the kind of music I like. Enjoy :)
